Bold Marble Veining Is the Hottest New Interior Design Trend

If you’re looking for a way to make a dramatic design statement and add a luxurious touch to your home, look to the latest interior design trend: Bold marble veining. Marble is a timeless material that has been around for centuries, and is a popular choice for everything from kitchen countertops to bathroom floors. Not all slabs of marble are alike however: It comes in different colors, such as white, black, and even pink, as well as a variety of finishes, like honed and polished. Another key element that changes the look and style of marble is veining—the pattern of lines typically formed by contrasting colors.

Bold marble veining is trending right now, infusing spaces with visual drama and daring personality, as well as organic patterns that ground the material’s luxurious essence. “We’re seeing a shift toward celebrating the beauty of natural materials in many forms and the sense of organic movement that comes with bold marble veining is one way of highlighting that beauty—it’s really nature’s way of creating art,” says Lindsie Davis, principal interior designer at Blueberry Jones Design. To get the inside scoop on the bold marble veining trend, we chatted with interior designers who share why this look is so popular right now, where to implement it in your home, and whether it’s really worth the investment.

Why Is Bold Marble Veining Trending Right Now?

While marble is a timeless classic, bold marble veining in particular is having a moment in the design world. “Bold marble veining has become increasingly popular as we seek to infuse our interiors with the luxury and natural beauty of the outdoors, creating spaces that resonate with nature’s elegance while we spend more time indoors,” says interior designer Lindye Galloway.

In addition to introducing organic patterns and a natural material into a space, bold marble veining delivers something else: Personality and drama. “As we focus on decluttering kitchens and having a dedicated landing spot for all our housewares, bold veining is an intentional way to bring focus and personality back to the kitchen,” Davis says. The bold veining creates a natural focal point and whether you use it in a kitchen or bathroom, “It makes a countertop or backsplash feel truly bespoke,” Davis says.

How to Use Marble with Bold Veining in Your Home

There are several places where marble with bold veining makes an especially stunning statement, but the designers agree a bathroom is a good place to start. “I’m a big proponent of bold veined marble in the bathroom, especially as we see the rise in prioritizing the design of secondary spaces,” Galloway says. She explains that it’s an excellent choice for both aesthetic and practical reasons. “As we increasingly focus on adding luxurious finishes to these spaces, marble stands out with its striking appearance and durability, making it an ideal choice to incorporate in bathrooms,” she says.

A powder room presents another opportunity to incorporate marble with bold veining into your home. Given that the room is typically small in size, it’s a good way to implement this trend in a more cost-effective way. Since bathroom countertops are typically smaller than kitchen countertops, you can incorporate the trend without the high price tag that comes with a large piece of marble. “The veining can bring so much visual interest to a small space like a powder room,” Davis says. She recommends creating a cantilevered countertop with a larger mitered skirt on the front and sides to make the stone appear as if it is as light as a feather. “It’s such a strategic design move, and I love the high impact look,” she says.

Another option—and one of Davis’ favorite places to use marble with bold veining—is the kitchen. “I love to use bold veined marble to wrap a wall, backsplash, or vent hood,” she says. This is a sure way to elevate your kitchen and add a statement feature that instantly draws attention. “You also can’t go wrong with bold marble veining to create a dramatic island focal point,” Davis says.

Is Bold Marble Veining Just a Fad, or Is It Worth Investing In?

Bold marble veining may be one of the hottest design trends right now, but it can also involve a significant financial investment. Marble as such is a classic material, but does this dramatic form of the material have staying power and is it worth the investment? Or is this just another design fad that will soon go out of style?

“Bold marble is worth the investment,” Galloway says. She believes it’s not just another trend that will soon look outdated. “While material trends come and go, bold veined marble transcends traditional stone finishes with distinctive veining and swirl patterns, creating an elegant yet timeless statement in any space,” she says.

Davis shares the same opinion. “Natural materials like marble have inherent staying power,” she says. She points out the fact that bold veined marble has been around for centuries, proving its timeless quality and the fact that it will always be in style. “That bold veining is truly a work of art, so if the look speaks to your personal style, it’s absolutely worth the investment,” she says.
